Voice Writing

Talk about a real job, a customer question or something you know, and Writrex writes it up as a blog post or page. Available on every Writrex plan with no usage limit of its own.

How it works

Open Writrex → Voice Writing. It sits straight after Blog Automator in the menu and has two tabs: Blog post (articles, tips and advice) and Page (service and location pages).

  1. Talk. Press Start talking. A full-screen recorder opens and your words appear as you speak.
  2. Check. Press Stop talking. Writrex reads your brief back so you can catch misheard words. Edit the text, press Continue talking to add more, or Start again.
  3. Write. Press Confirm and write my post (or page). Writrex picks the title, keyword, area and image from what you said, then writes it with your usual template, brand profile and quality checks.

Speech-to-text happens in your browser. Writrex receives only the text you confirm and never stores audio.

Writing a post or page by voice

  1. Open the Blog post or Page tab.
  2. For a blog post, choose a Writing style. Leave it on Automatic unless you know what you want.
  3. Choose When it is written: Save as draft so I can check it (recommended) or Publish straight away.
  4. Press Start talking. Describe one real thing in detail. For a page, say the service, the town or area, and what makes your work different.
  5. Press Stop talking, listen to the read-back, fix anything that is wrong, then confirm.
  6. Watch the progress steps. When it finishes, open the result in the editor to review it.
Pages need an area. A page is written for a place, so Writrex needs to hear one. If it cannot find a town or area in your brief, it takes you back to the review with a message so you can add it.
Check before you publish. Your story is treated as first-hand source material and Writrex does not invent jobs, customers, results or numbers. It can still mishear a word. A name that looks misheard is kept as written and noted in the draft for you to check. Always read the draft first.

Writing style (blog posts)

StyleUse it forWhat changes
AutomaticWhen you are not sureWritrex reads what you said and chooses Business or Personal story. Your explicit choice always overrides it.
Business or marketingPosts that should bring in workSEO structure, proof points, your brand profile's voice and rules, a call to action and the full quality score
Personal storyDiary, lifestyle or story blogsFirst person, events in the order you told them. No sales language, FAQ, "conclusion" or business proof. The research brief, E-E-A-T proof, refinement and automatic internal links are off, and the quality score is not applied because it rates calls to action and local proof. Blocking checks and the output scrubber still apply.

Pages are always written as business pages.

Voice Writing settings

Open Writrex → Settings → Voice Writing.

SettingDefaultWhy it matters
Turn on Voice WritingOnThe master switch. When off, the Voice Writing screen shows a notice telling you where to turn it back on.
Read my brief back to me when I stop talkingOnHearing your brief is the quickest way to find a misheard name, place or number. If you turn it off, the Read back button is still there.
Let me say "yes" or "no" to confirmOffConfirm hands-free after the read-back. It needs automatic read-back and works best in Chrome. The buttons always work too.
Default speech languageMatch my site languageThe language the recorder listens for. Choose English (US, UK, Australia, Ireland, India or South Africa), Spanish, French, German, Italian, Portuguese or Dutch. A mismatch is the most common cause of garbled place names. You can also change it inside the recorder.

The Writing style and When it is written choices are on the Voice Writing screen itself, because you may want a different one each time.

Getting a great result

  • Pick one real job, question or story, and give detail: the town, the part, the price, how long it took.
  • Say your opinion or advice. That is the part no other site has.
  • Aim for at least 40 words. Under that, Writrex shows a hint that more detail makes a better post. It does not block you.
  • Recordings can run up to ten minutes. If the browser stops listening after a pause, Writrex restarts it and keeps your text.
  • Chrome adds little punctuation. That is fine: Writrex rewrites the text.

Browsers and privacy

BrowserTalk to typeRead back
Chrome (desktop and Android)YesYes
EdgeYesYes
Safari (Mac and iPhone)Yes (can be less steady on long recordings)Yes
FirefoxNoYes

Writrex does not record, upload or store audio. In Chrome the browser sends audio to Google to turn it into text, and in Edge to Microsoft; that is the browser's own service. Writrex's AI provider only receives the text of your confirmed brief. Voice Writing needs your site to use HTTPS.

Problems and fixes

ProblemWhat to do
"Voice input isn't supported in this browser"Use Chrome, Edge or Safari, or type your notes into the recorder's text box. Firefox cannot do speech-to-text.
"Voice input needs your site to use HTTPS"Browsers only allow microphones on secure sites. Switch the site to HTTPS.
Microphone blocked or "not allowed"Click the padlock in the address bar and allow the microphone. If it stays blocked, a security header on your site (a Permissions-Policy that disables the microphone) may be the cause.
Nothing appears when I talkCheck the right microphone is selected in your browser and system settings, and that the speech language matches the language you are speaking.
Names and places are misheardSet the correct default speech language, speak slowly on names, then fix them in the review box before confirming.
A page asks for an areaSay the town or area in your brief, for example "in Headingley, Leeds", then confirm again.
The post was saved as a draft although I chose PublishThe quality gate holds weak results as drafts. See Quality gate and checks.
