Writrex vs Generic AI Writers for Local SEO

Last updated: · By the Writrex Team

The short answer. A generic AI writer gives you text. Writrex gives you a finished local SEO page inside WordPress: researched, structured, with schema, internal links and SEO fields already filled in, and checked for quality before it goes live. Its built-in AI agent, Ask Writrex, then finds and fixes SEO problems on the pages you already have. For one-off copy, a generic writer is fine. For service-area and location pages at any scale, the extra work a generic writer leaves with you is the part that decides whether the pages are worth ranking.

What we mean by "generic AI writer"

A generic AI writer is any general-purpose chatbot or template-based writing tool that is built to produce text on any subject. You give it a prompt, it gives you words. It does not know your WordPress site, your other pages, which SEO plugin you use or whether a page you are about to create will compete with one you already have.

That is not a criticism. These tools are good at what they were built for. The question is whether that is the job you actually need done when you are building local SEO pages.

Writrex vs generic AI writers: side by side

Where a generic writer can do something with careful prompting, we say so. The difference is that you repeat that effort on every single page. The middle column describes what is typical of general-purpose AI writers; it is not a claim about any specific product.

The real risk with location pages: doorway pages

Anyone can swap a town name into a template and produce fifty pages in an afternoon. That is exactly what Google's spam policies on doorway abuse and scaled content abuse are aimed at. The policies focus on whether content was made to help people or to manipulate rankings. They are not about whether AI was involved.

A generic AI writer has no built-in defence against this. If you ask it for fifty near-identical pages, it will cheerfully produce them.

Writrex is built around the opposite idea. Local signals push real facts about each area into the content. The overlap guard flags pages that would compete with each other. The quality gate scores specificity and holds weak pages back. The result is pages that give a local reader something worth reading.

Read the longer version: what Google says about AI content and how Writrex handles doorway-page risk and scaled content.

How Writrex builds one local page

  1. You enter a service and a location. Add local detail if you have it.
  2. Writrex builds a research brief. Search intent, competing headings, real local facts, FAQs and angles that make the page different.
  3. It writes the page. Headings and sections, written to the brief rather than from a blank prompt.
  4. It adds the technical layer. Schema, internal links, a featured image and the meta title, description and focus keyphrase in your SEO plugin.
  5. It checks its own work. 38 quality checks score readability, structure, specificity and repetition, and the overlap guard checks for competing pages.
  6. It publishes or holds. Pages that pass go live. Pages that do not meet the quality checks are saved as a draft so you can review and fix them.

From install to your first finished page takes a few minutes.

After publishing: Ask Writrex fixes the pages you already have

A generic AI writer cannot see your site. To fix a page, you paste it in, copy the answer back and hope nothing broke. Ask Writrex is an AI agent built into Writrex that works inside WordPress. It reads your pages, SEO fields, images and the live pages your visitors see, explains what is wrong and offers the fix as a change card.

  • Nothing changes until you press Apply. Every applied change is recorded in Change History with one-click undo.
  • SEO Reports scans the site for essential SEO problems, and every issue has a Fix with Ask Writrex button.
  • It works on pages you did not generate, including missing meta descriptions, missing ALT text and weak titles.
  • It never edits PHP, themes or plugins.
  • Included in Writrex Lite with Google Gemini, and in every paid plan with Gemini, OpenAI or Anthropic Claude.

When a generic AI writer is the better choice

We would rather you pick the right tool than the wrong one. A generic writer is the better fit when:

  • You need one blog post or one piece of brand copy, not a set of location pages
  • The writing needs a strong personal voice that you will edit heavily anyway
  • You already have an editor or team handling structure, schema and SEO fields
  • The site is small and you only need one or two pages

When Writrex is the better choice

Writrex is the better fit when:

  • You run an agency or freelance business and build location or service pages for clients
  • You are a multi-location or service-area business covering several towns
  • You work in WordPress and want the SEO fields, schema and internal links handled for you
  • You want a check against doorway-page and cannibalisation problems before pages go live
  • You want an AI agent that can find and fix SEO problems on your existing pages, with your approval
  • You want to repeat the process reliably across many pages

What it costs

Writrex Lite is free. There is no subscription, no credit system and no usage cap inside the plugin. You bring your own Google Gemini API key, which has a free tier for text, so you can generate as many pages as your own Gemini quota allows. Ask Writrex is included. Stock images from Pexels and Pixabay and AI images from Pollinations work without paying, but Gemini's own image models need billing switched on for your key.

Writrex, the paid plugin, is the version for larger content programmes and agencies. It adds OpenAI, Claude and Perplexity with a fallback provider, WooCommerce product and category content, existing-page SEO repair, brand profiles and client reports from Starter; bulk campaigns, scheduling, Search Console, rank tracking and analytics from Professional; and the content decay scanner from Agency. Plans are annual licences from $49 a year for one site to $799 a year for 100 sites, with no monthly fee and no per-word costs. See the full plan list.

What Writrex will not do

  • It will not guarantee rankings. Nobody can, and you should be wary of anyone who does.
  • It will not invent local knowledge for you. The better the local facts you give it, the better the page. That is why the field exists.
  • It will not replace a human read. Review pages, especially for claims, prices and anything legally sensitive.
  • It will not change your site without asking. Ask Writrex only suggests; you choose what to apply.
  • Writrex Lite uses Google Gemini only. Additional AI providers are part of the paid Writrex plugin.
FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Can ChatGPT write local SEO pages?
It can write the text, and with a detailed prompt it can write good text. What it does not do is research your competitors, add schema, write into your SEO plugin, link to your other pages, check for competing pages or score the result. You can do all of that by hand, but you repeat it for every page. Writrex handles that layer for you.
Will Google penalise AI-generated location pages?
Google's spam policies target low-value content created at scale to manipulate rankings, such as doorway pages. They are not a rule against AI. Pages that genuinely serve a specific location with real detail are normal SEO practice. Writrex gives you an overlap guard, a quality score and a local signals field so you can tell the difference.
Is Writrex Lite really free?
Yes. Nothing in it is capped or time-limited. You need a Google Gemini API key, which has a free tier for text. Gemini image generation needs billing enabled, but free stock and AI image providers work without it.
Do I need an SEO plugin?
No. Writrex works with Yoast SEO, Rank Math, All in One SEO, SEOPress and The SEO Framework and writes into their fields, and it also works with none of them installed.
Does Writrex publish pages automatically?
Yes, in both Writrex Lite and the paid Writrex plugin. Writrex creates each page and publishes it for you. If a page does not meet the quality checks, it is saved as a draft instead, so you can review it, make any changes and publish it yourself.
Can Writrex fix SEO on pages it did not write?
Yes. Ask Writrex, the AI agent built into Writrex, reads your existing pages and the live pages visitors see, finds SEO problems such as missing meta descriptions or ALT text, and offers each fix as a change card. Nothing changes until you press Apply, and every change can be undone from Change History. It is included in Writrex Lite and every paid plan.
What is the difference between Writrex Lite and Writrex?
Writrex Lite builds local pages and blog posts one at a time using Gemini, and includes Ask Writrex. Writrex, the paid plugin, adds more AI providers, WooCommerce content, existing-page SEO repair, brand profiles, client reports, bulk campaigns and scheduling, Search Console, rank tracking and the content decay scanner, depending on the plan. Pages you have already published stay as ordinary WordPress content when you move up.
Can I use my own page design?
Yes. Turn Template mode off and Writrex produces classic structured content you can lay out yourself in Elementor, WPBakery or the block editor.
