# Writrex documentation

A complete reference for every screen, setting and safeguard in Writrex - the AI local SEO content plugin for WordPress.

**Writrex and Writrex Lite.** Writrex Lite is the free edition; Writrex is the paid plugin. Features marked  (Starter+)  (Professional+) or  (Agency+) need that plan or higher.

## How Writrex works

Writrex creates, repairs and maintains SEO content from inside WordPress. It works in four stages:

1. **Configure** - add AI keys, business details, brand profiles, language, quality defaults, image settings and indexing options.

2. **Generate** - create a page, blog post, WooCommerce item or campaign draft.

3. **Review** - check the quality gate, metadata, links, template slots and page preview before publishing.

4. **Maintain** - scan existing pages, refresh older content, audit orphan pages, monitor ranks and repair metadata.

Alongside all four stages, [Ask Writrex](https://writrex.com/docs-ask-writrex/), the built-in AI agent, answers questions about your site and fixes SEO problems as change cards you approve one by one.

## Requirements

| PHP | 7.4 or higher (8.0+ recommended) |
| AI provider key | At least one. Google Gemini works on every plan. |
| SEO plugin | Optional but recommended: Yoast SEO, Rank Math, All in One SEO, SEOPress or The SEO Framework |
| WooCommerce | Optional - required only for the WooCommerce tools |
| Server | Standard shared hosting is fine. 128 MB memory or more recommended. |

## Installation

1. **Download the plugin.** Download Writrex from your [account](https://account.writrex.com/downloads/writrex/), or Writrex Lite from [writrex.com/free](https://writrex.com/free).

2. **Upload it.** In WordPress go to *Plugins → Add New → Upload Plugin*, choose the zip and click *Install Now*.

3. **Activate.** A *Writrex* menu appears in the admin sidebar.

4. **Add an API key.** Open *Writrex → Settings*, choose a provider, paste the key and use the test button.

5. **Generate your first page.** Open *Writrex → Pages Automator*, enter a keyword and area, and click *Generate Page*. It is created as a draft in about 15–60 seconds.

## First-setup checklist

- AI provider key entered and tested

- Business name, phone, contact URL and writing locale set in *Settings → Business Defaults*

- A [brand profile](https://writrex.com/docs-brand-templates/) created for your business, or one per client (Starter and above)

- A page template chosen in *Template Manager*, and colours set in *Colour Customiser*

- An [SEO report](https://writrex.com/docs-ask-writrex/#seo-reports) run early, so you see real problems before creating new content, then fixed with Ask Writrex

- First page generated as a **draft**, reviewed, then published

## The Writrex menu

Menu items appear in this order in Writrex 1.2.0. Writrex Lite has a shorter menu: Dashboard, Pages Automator, Blog Automator, Ask Writrex, Bulk Meta Fixer, AI Visibility, SEO Reports, Settings, Colour Customiser, Help Guide and Change History.
