# Links, related pages and overlap

Search engines discover pages through links, and they can't rank two pages for the same intent equally well. These tools address both.

## Link Audit

Open *Writrex → Link Audit*. A read-only report of generated pages that don't appear to receive internal links. An **orphan** page exists but is hard for visitors and search engines to reach; a **cluster-only** page is reachable only through related-pages sections.

- Filter to problems only, and page through results.

- A *Competing pages* section lists generated pages that overlap.

- The report is cached and refreshed when posts change.

**Known limitation.** The audit reads links stored in post content. Links added through a page builder that stores content elsewhere may be invisible to it, so such a page could be reported as an orphan.

## Related pages

With *Related Pages* enabled in Settings, each generated page gets a section linking to others for the same service or area, then recent pages. Choose how many to show (3–12).

### Shortcode

Place this on a services hub, footer template or sidebar, using each builder's Shortcode widget. It shows a thumbnail when the linked page has a featured image.

```
[ca_related_pages]
[ca_related_pages keyword="Air Conditioning Installation" limit="8"]
```

## Internal link suggestions

In Pages Automator, click **Suggest Links** to see the best internal targets for your keyword and area, each with a match reason and anchor variants. With *Automatically include best matching internal links* on, Writrex adds them during generation, keeps anchors varied and avoids linking the same URL twice.

## Overlap and cannibalisation guard

Before generating, Writrex compares the new keyword and area with existing generated pages.

| Result | When |
| --- | --- |
| **Block** | Same keyword and same area; or same keyword with an area that differs only by a qualifier such as north, south, greater or surrounding |
| **Warn** | Overlapping area names that may be different places; a keyword contained in another for the same area; or a very similar combination |

For a competing page you can **set a canonical URL** and undo it. The quality gate also includes *No competing page* and a *Doorway similarity guard*, and *heading history* nudges headings to differ from those already used on your site (reset it in Settings).

**Limits.** Matching is token-based. It catches the same service and area but doesn't understand synonyms such as "AC" and "air conditioning". Review warnings before deciding whether to generate another page.
